He signed and dated the bottom of that car, and I’ve kept it ever since. Because of that, I’ve named this model after him — the Bill Johnson.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMy grandpa was a maker in his own way. He built small wooden toys for his grandkids and crafted things for people and around the house — the same way I now 3D print and design things for others. This car is one of the things that was made \u003ci\u003ejust for me\u003c\/i\u003e, by his hands, and it’s always been a reminder of where my love for creating things may have began.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eNow, more than 30 years later, I’ve reverse-engineered it piece by piece in CAD so it can be shared, built, and enjoyed again — not just as a memory on a shelf, but as something that lives on through other makers and other hands. He could have never imagined that kids all over the World may some day be enjoying the very design he was crafting.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003e🛠️ Faithful to the Original – Piece by Piece\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe model is broken down the same way he built it — separate wheels, axles, cab, fenders, lights, exhaust, and more.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIn a few places where he glued parts together, I merged them into single printable pieces for strength and simplicity — but the spirit of his construction is preserved.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAnd yes — the wheels really roll. You can display it or actually roll it around like a toy.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003ch3\u003e📦 Printing \u0026amp; Assembly\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eGlue-free, press-fit design — everything goes together by hand (or may require a small mallet).\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAssemble the small parts first (lights, steering wheel, exhaust), then the rest of the car.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf needed I have a separate printable mini mallet available on my profile.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003ch3\u003e⚙️ Fit \u0026amp; Tolerances\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eEvery printer and filament behaves a little differently.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf a part is too tight or loose, simply adjust the scale of that part slightly and reprint — that’s the easiest way to fine-tune the fit.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe full build should go together without force, glue, or special tools.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003ch3\u003e🧱 Supports \u0026amp; Build Tips\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSome overhangs are intentional and do not require support — so support is only included where it’s truly needed.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFor the axles, removing support is easy: flip them upside down and push from the bottom — the supports pop right out.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003ch3\u003e💬 Want Something Like This Recreated?\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf you have a small wooden toy or handmade piece with sentimental value and would like it turned into a 3D-printable model, feel free to reach out.
