Kitchen Towel Roll Holder Version 3: Enhanced Design for Optimal Functionality

It seems like the stars have aligned for this model today. Interestingly, I developed this version just the day after publishing the second one. Often, when working on a design, new ideas emerge on how to improve details or add something new. That's exactly what happened this time. After a short period of using the second version of the towel roll holder, I realized it lacked a ratchet grip. So now, this version includes it!

In addition, cosmetic changes have been made to the thread of the axial screws, and their shape has been refined. The holder now features a new spring mechanism that prevents the roll from spinning freely. This allows you to tear off a piece of paper towel with a quick motion easily.

The axial screws have left-hand and right-hand triple-start threads. They need to be installed in such a way that the screws appear to tighten into the bushings inserted into the roll’s sleeve as the roll unwinds. This ensures reliable and smooth operation, making the holder more convenient and effective to use.

Key Features:

  • Ratchet Grip:Added for better control and ease of tearing off paper towels.
  • Improved Screw Threads:Cosmetic and functional improvements to the threading and shape of the axial screws for enhanced performance and aesthetics.
  • Spring Mechanism:New mechanism to prevent the roll from spinning freely, adding friction that makes it easier to tear the towel.
  • Triple-start Threads:Axial screws with left-hand and right-hand threads ensure they tighten into the bushing during roll unwinding, enhancing stability.

This updated version is designed to provide a more convenient and practical user experience. Enjoy the convenience and efficiency this new design brings to your kitchen!

You can download the pre-prepared print file and make your adjustments based on the plastic and printer specifications. I printed using PLA and ABS+HS from eSUN.

Idea for an Upgrade

At some point in the comments on one of the platforms—maybe even here—someone asked whether it would be possible to make magnetic brackets for mounting on a fridge, car, or any other metal surface.

Recently, I revisited that idea… and realized:

what’s there to invent? The solution is already obvious.

I simply took standard magnets in 16 mm housings and screwed them onto the holder.

The result? It holds perfectly—both on the fridge and on the metal wall of my workbench.

So there’s really nothing to redesign.

All you need to do is get the right magnets, and your holder instantly becomes a versatile magnetic version.

Next Update Universal Skådis Hooks for Accessories by Perinski

This set of universal hooks was created specifically for Skådis perforated panels and is intended to serve as a base element for approximately 99% of my models designed for this system.

To date, more than 25 accessories have already been developed, and they will be gradually published over the coming months. It makes sense to start with the foundation. This print profile and the hooks themselves were originally designed to mount a towel holder on Skådis panels.

The idea came about very simply. A user named Sven asked for brackets compatible with these panels. During development, it became clear that nothing needed to be redesigned — it was enough to add hooks to the existing standard brackets. All other geometry was already in place.

For secure mounting, M2 screws and nuts are used, with the nuts heat-set directly into the end of the hook. This provides a rigid, play-free connection and follows the same approach previously used in magnetic mounts. Skådis panels work perfectly here: the hook holes exactly match the perforation pattern. Simple and convenient.

It makes sense to print these hooks in quantity. Very quickly, it becomes clear that a single panel can hold a large number of different accessories. This is a universal base around which an entire ecosystem of Skådis-compatible models will continue to grow.

There is a strong feeling that the entire project could become a noticeable hit. However, real results will not be visible before March — preparation and staged releases are currently underway. For now, these are the base hooks — the foundation for everything else, both new and existing models and their adaptation to Skådis.
