For example, automation may not detect insufficient filament flow or adhesion issues in the first layer, which are easily noticeable during visual analysis. \u003cstrong\u003ePrintoScope\u003c\/strong\u003e provides this functionality, offering magnification comparable to an electronic loupe.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe device is particularly convenient for printers with a glass top panel, such as the Bambu Lab X1C. For example, in my setup, the AMS is placed on a shelf above the printer, leaving the glass fully accessible for monitoring and working with the printer. This setup makes it easier to achieve optimal settings and high-quality prints. Despite the advanced automation systems in modern printers like the Bambu Lab X1C, the success of a print often depends on precise profile adjustments. \u003cstrong\u003ePrintoScope\u003c\/strong\u003e helps identify even the smallest issues in the first layer and fine-tune parameters, ensuring a reliable start for every project.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eTechnical Features\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe device's body was printed using matte ABS plastic from eSUN with a layer thickness of 0.12 mm. The design includes:\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eVentilation holes implemented through slicer settings. These are created by setting zero top and bottom layers and using 35% infill with a honeycomb pattern. This approach speeds up printing and makes the structure lighter.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eA focus adjustment ring designed as a thrust ball-bearing mechanism, 3D-printed. Between the ring and the body are calibrated plastic balls lubricated with white grease, ensuring smooth movement. This is not a standard bearing but a printed imitation used to test technologies. In this project, it is an over-engineered solution, but it provides smooth and pleasant movement, far better than simple friction. The device will work even without the balls if you choose not to use them.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eA camera module equipped with an OmniVision OV2710 sensor. Any USB module in this form factor will work, so the choice is limited only by the module's dimensions. This flexibility allows you to adapt the device to your needs. A separate lens with a 16mm focal length and M12 threading was purchased. Note that the module usually comes with a wide-angle lens, and the lens mount is relatively low. For a 16mm lens, a lens adapter is required. Such adapters can be purchased for a small cost (around $0.30) or 3D-printed. A model of this part is also available in the provided files. A filter is mandatory for the lens to avoid a completely purple image. However, some modules come with a built-in filter on the sensor. Be cautious when selecting components: the ones I specified include a module without a filter and a lens with one.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003cp\u003eI finished the body surfaces on a lathe and applied a matte acetone-based lacquer for a clean, professional appearance. This step is optional, but I wanted to make it look as good as possible. The final result looks as if it were factory-made—well, almost :). But if you're satisfied with the post-print look, you can skip these steps. I just wanted to do it well, and I think I succeeded.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eWhy Is It Convenient?\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePrintoScope\u003c\/strong\u003e features a long-focus lens and a FullHD camera. The camera streams the image via USB to a computer, allowing a detailed view of the first layer on a large screen. This makes analysis much more precise compared to unaided visual inspection or using a built-in camera with a wide-angle lens, which can make it harder to detect small defects.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis approach is useful not only for tuning profiles for new materials but also for a detailed visual analysis of the parameters being adjusted. The device makes it easy to fine-tune flow, temperature, or pressure (PA) settings, which is particularly important when working with different materials.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eInspiration for Future Projects\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eBeyond its main function, \u003cstrong\u003ePrintoScope\u003c\/strong\u003e has become a platform for experimenting with new technologies.
