rock-in-the-box
Rock-in-the-Box

I'm not really a “The Rock” remix kind of designer, but I wanted to design a Jack-in-the-Box and The Rock (literally) leapt out at me. The box, spring and lid all print in place, with the head printed separately and then glued on. Note that I've also included separate STEP files for a plain version of the box that you can easily customize with your own graphics/text, and also for the core part of the head that you can merge with your own likeness, if you like.

Printing Details
The box supplied in the 3MF file consists of 3 separate parts: the box, the lid and the spring. The box and the lid both print with normal printing parameters, but you'll see that the spring needs to be printed with 4 perimeters and much more slowly (30mm/s). If starting with the raw STL file for the box, you'll need to first import the box into your slicer and then separate it into separate parts. For just the spring, modify the number of perimeters and the speed as indicated.

Post Printing
The lid is printed standing up and needs to be broken free at the hinge. Grasp the lid just above the hinge knuckles and gently work it back & forth until it is freed. Work it opened and closed a number of times until it swings fairly freely.

Also note that to stabilize the spring while printing, there are some tiny bridges going from the inside of the spring to the top of the center post. As you compress the spring all the way, these bridges should break away, but you may need to trim them with some cutters or an xacto knife.

If you just put the head on top of the spring and close the lid, The Rock will get launched into space. To keep him in place, put a few drops of superglue onto the raised top edge of the spring and then press the head down in place.

Design by LoboCNC on MakerWorld (license: BY-SA).

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0987/0809/5280/files/0_dc7ed666-937f-4960-81a5-106eee4b1d50.png?v=1784010745
