Meet the "Handheld Cartridges Storage"👋
I have a lot of loose retro games for GameBoy and GameGear and some other consoles. I looked online for storage solutions for a while, but was never satisfied. Printed racks I downloaded pinched the carts too hard, leaving faint marks. I also wanted a closed box, to protect cartridges from UV light and yellowing, but also sometimes for carrying.
I decided to create my own solution while learning CAD, and publish it for all game collectors. I hope you enjoy them. 🙇

2026-04-14 - v3-rev05 - Corrected minor errors on "ds-guitar-grip", "ds3ds-bigboy". Corrected a small but impactful error on "ds3ds-pico" that could make the box difficult to open.

Storage features 📐
All storages are made of a box, and a drawer. Each drawer can usually fit 10 loose games for standard cartridges size (may vary for special carts). Each game slot should hold the cartridge without pinching, or scraping the carts. Each slot is also made to never rub against the cart label. A small "UP" text with an arrow is visible on the front of drawer, with a bottom text describing the type of carts it can hold. A groove on each side of the box enables you to grab the drawer front to open it.
No screw, magnet or anything else is needed for these models. It's designed to be simple and cheap to print and use.

There are numerous models, for your every need. Values in this table may vary with your print settings and are indicative only. Models labeled UNTESTED mean I didn't print them. They should work as they respect other models dimensions and are just slight reworks, but print with caution.

Extra files 🕹️
Some extra files are provided and are completely optional.
- "switch-tabs" : Sorting tabs for Switch storages. Just simple tabs the size of a cart, for alphabetical sorting and more.
Printing tips (important, do not skip this) 🚨
Most prints can be made on printers with a volume as small as 150x150x150mm. BigBoy model sizes can be bigger!
Modeling was made for FDM printers, using PLA. Untested with anything else!
A modern printer will have the best results (think those newer Core XY models). Tolerances are tighter in v3 so you may want to print a small model first, like "switch-pico", to be sure your printer is calibrated correctly.
Recommended print settings are as follow :
- 0,4mm nozzle
- 0,2mm layers
- 2 walls
- Detect thin walls enabled
- 16% infill, cubic, gyroid or honeycomb
- No supports
- A brim is optional but could prevent warping on bigger models!
Boxes should be printed upright, like a vase. Drawers are printed flat.
If your printer is a bed slinger then the drawer must be printed with the front parallel to the bed axis, to minimize wobble. Else the drawer front may be skewed.

Let your prints fully cool down before assembly of drawer and box. This will prevent unwanted deformations on tabs and pegs for the locking mechanism.
The first time you close the box, it may be a bit hard to open depending on model size and your printer calibration, because of the locking system. You need to work it gently a few times before it gets better! In case it's still hard to open, gently use a file on the drawer locking pegs, and progress slowly, checking if it fits.

I don't sell storages myself as I don't have the time to manage that. Feel free to ask your local 3D print creators to print those models for you. The licence (CC BY-SA) does not restrict them to sell prints, but they still need to give credit! It's a pretty permissive licence.
