Spirograph for Kids (like Spirograph Jr)
This is inspired by Spirograph Jr, which is a spirograph set with large gears and larger holes meant for littler kids who struggle with the small gears of a regular spirograph set. The main improvement this has over the original is that I added a bottom plate with magnets, so the bottom and top “snap” together with paper in between, keeping the outer gear in place on the paper so you don't have to hold it. I found this helped my small kids out a ton as they were having trouble keeping it from slipping and ruining their designs.
The design calls for 16 6x3mm magnets (8 on bottom and 8 on top), but it worked pretty well with just 8 (4 on bottom and 4 on top) if you prefer a less strong attachment. The holes should be tight enough just for press fit, but if you want to add a drop of glue in each hole just to be extra sure they don't fall out and get eaten by small children I wouldn't blame you.
There are 2 sizes of holes in each gear, the larger one is large enough for a regular size Crayola crayon and marker (which the other spirographs I've seen online do not have).
UPDATE 2026-01-11: Fixed issue with the largest gear (gear 4) reported by @iangreenleaf (thank you!!)
