Anutter2 Paper Towel Rack

A robust and sturdy paper towel rack with a hinged post to easily facilitate changing the paper towel roll.

This could be called version 2 of https://makerworld.com/en/models/1103518-anutter-paper-towel-rack#profileId-1098982, but it truly is a complete redesign, retaining just a few design aspects of the original.  Instead of using a tight hinge (tough to print for some) to maintain the position of the hinge, Anutter2 uses a locking device to hold the post in position so that it doesn't open up while pulling paper towels from the rack.

Features

  • Print-in-place hinge and locking mechanism
  • Locks in the “open” and “closed” positions
  • Incorporated spring returns the latch to the locked position after opening
  • Latch can be accessed from the front or back
  • Robust and hefty design for years of service
  • Includes printable hole template

Printing

  • Bambu Lab PLA Matte (black)
  • 0.4mm nozzle
  • 0.2mm layer height
  • No supports required
  • Recommend printing the Hinged Post first.  It has risk of failure with bed adhesion and component fusing.  By printing it first, you may save filament if you abort the project after a failed print.
  • I used Bambu Lab Studio to paint the “spring” (red) on the device so that it would show better in pictures, but left the configuration in the print profile if you'd like the dual color option.  The spring is built-in, it is not a separate object.  This painting modifier is incorporated into the uploaded print profile.  You can choose to print with the accent color of your choice, or change it to a single color print.  The accent color option adds just 4 filament changes to both the Stationary and Hinged Post prints.
  • The hinge incorporates cone-shaped pins, rather than a through pin design.  This highly reduces overhangs, printing should be more reliable on most printers.
  • The hole template is configured in the print profile to print with zero top and bottom shell layers to reduce filament.  The template is just two layers thick.  Allow the build plate to cool completely before removing the template!

Post Processing

CAUTION:  The hinged post is printed in the “open and locked” position!  First free up the locking mechanism before breaking free and rotating the hinge!  You'll need to hold the latch in the OPEN position while you work the hinge free.

Feedback

Your positive or negative feedback is welcome and encouraged here.  Models and designers don't get better without it.  Please post your successes and failures, it really helps the community.  Honest ratings help the next guy decide whether to print or not.  And pictures of your make give future makers an inkling of what to expect from the model.  And lastly, your boost does help offset the cost of filament for all the design prototypes and is very much appreciated.

Thanks!
