Get perfectly smooth, injection-molded top surfaces in half the time of the default Bambu Studio settings. I’ve tested this across many different models and hours of printing to find the sweet spot between speed and surface quality. Tested on A1 mini - when using a different printer these settings should still work fine, but in general every printer's sweetspot is slightly different so ymmv.

Settings for 0.4mm Nozzle (see screenshot)

  • Ironing Type: Top Surfaces
  • Ironing Speed: 60 mm/s (Default is 30 mm/s)
  • Ironing Flow: 30% (Default is 10%)
  • Line Spacing: 0.15mm (switch to 0.225 for 0.6mm nozzle)

How to Use
Simply use the included print profile to save these settings to your presets, or manually copy them from the screenshot provided.

Notes

  • Ironing excels on larger, flat areas. Switch it off for rounded or domed top surfaces, as the nozzle geometry cannot properly iron varying Z-heights.
  • I deliberately lit the photos at a harsh angle to highlight every possible microscopic line so you can see exactly what the nozzle is doing. In normal room lighting, the surfaces look completely solid and incredibly clean.

How it Works

  • Default ironing (30 mm/s, 10% flow) often causes heat creep or localized plastic degradation due to the nozzle dwelling too long on a single spot.
  • Doubling the speed (60 mm/s) reduces thermal damage to the top layer. Tripling the flow (30%) and slightly widening the line spacing (0.15 mm) provides exactly enough fresh polymer to fill the microscopic valleys between extrusion lines without tearing the existing surface.
