The M6 Flanged Nut Holder provides designers with an option to include strong threaded pass-through inserts to a 3D printed design, without the need to pause a print to insert a hex nut or to get out the soldering iron to press in a heated insert.

This model can be set into any surface at any angle and close in to confined corners. Then after printing, the flanged nut can be permanantly snaped into place with no tools required.

Great for tight spaces where the heating iron won't fit, for up-side-down locations, for when it's prefered to have the attaching object contact directly with the nut surface, (rather than on the skin of filament print) and when the threaded screw may require a pass-through as an adjustment screw or to attach multiple items to the screw itself. Flanged nut is used, because a standard hex nut has to issue of falling out of it's holder if it's not completely encased in print. Also, the flange adds extra surface contact with the print, allowing more torque to be applied to the screw and spread out the tension over a greater area.

Works best as a thread on the inside of an enclosure, where the lid is to be fastened to the very corners of the box, where the print is strongest. Set the design by embedding it into the surface of a model and combining it. Any orientation. Add Chamfers to the outer sides, to increase it's strength and allow printing without supports from different angles. Scale the design and tweak it to accommodate other sizes of nuts, from M3 through to M20.

Hope you find uses for it, as it has personally gotten me out of a lot of difficult situations.

  • It will require you to purchase non-serrated metal flange nuts preferrably to Metric sizing for scaling, (such as in the pictures provided).
  • If the flanged nut is too difficult to press into the holder, heating the nut and using needle nose pliers to insert it into the holder, will soften the holder just enough to accept the nut and secure it into place when the nut cools down again. This can happen with stiffer filament materials on larger sized nuts, such as when printing with ABS.
  • Offering this design as free to use for everybody. Change and upgrade it as you see fit.
