Making a nut model in SolidWorks for 3D printing (female threads)
Hi friends, I was facing the problem of modeling internal threads for 3D printing. It has been surprisingly difficult to find clear information, even from experienced design professionals and 3D printing hobbyists. It seems that half of them rely on undocumented knowledge and non-standard thread designs, the other half on GOST, whether they are English-speaking or Russian-speaking. The problem was that I needed to create a threaded hole in a part, and it just didn't work! If you make a thread according to GOST, such a thread does not work. The threads are printed, but nothing screws in further than a few turns. This shows that the conventional approach is not good enough. I don't want to design my own thread or increase the indentation in the contour mindlessly by selection method, I don't want to invent anything. I just want to make the thread according to GOST standards and make it work. Now I want to show you the solution, which I found through experience and scrupulous study of GOSTs for threads, nuts and tolerances, taps and explain it step by step, so that you also have a thread. I hope my solution will be useful for your creative endeavors! :)
