The Pentair Sand Dollar uses a much coarser thread than standard threaded unions. It uses a 2½"-8 TPI thread. I wanted to make a quick-connect attachment for my 1.5" discharge hose so it wouldn’t always be hanging there.
The setup uses an R-31 O-ring with a 1 7/8" ID, 2 1/8" OD, and 1/8" thickness. This should be included in most inexpensive O-ring kits, like the ones Harbor Freight sells. I also made a TPU-printed version, but I haven’t actually tested it yet, so you’ll need to verify that it works yourself. I held the O-ring in place with a couple drops of super glue to keep it from falling out.
This adapter is designed for use with a standard 1.5" discharge hose.
The threaded nut prints slightly tight at first, but after tightening and loosening it a few times, it fits great. I think this is due to the 3D print seams.
I used a zip tie to secure the standard discharge hose in place.
I think this design would also work for the main fittings, but you would definitely want to perform some stress testing first, since I’d hate for it to break and drain the pool!
