Platethora, The quick release plate for everything

Platethora, the open-source, public-domain, quick-release Plate system with a Plethora of applications. 

Platethora was inspired by systems like Gridfinity, the Honeycomb storage wall, and tripods. I aimed to create a quick-release plate you could use for anything you want, not just cameras. 

I tried to make the design as simple as possible while using also as little hardware as possible, but an M4x14-16 screw with a nylon nut is still required, although a regular nut with some superglue should also work. 

The main goal is for people to create their own bases and plates for whatever they need, which is why I shared the editable step files and put the whole project into the public domain, meaning you can do whatever you want with these files.

I recommend printing in PETG in the orientation shown above. 

This isn't supposed to be a replacement for conventional tripods for cameras and such. It's supposed to be an option to be able to use tripods and quick-release plates with things you usually can't use them with.

Things like lights and the other examples in the photos.

If you have a really nice camera, then I encourage you to buy a nice tripod for it with a proper metal quick-release plate. But if you want something a little more out there, like helping hands that can be switched from being used on a flat surface to being used with a desk clamp, then I would argue my system is the better option.

It's a solution for very specific problems, which is exactly what 3D printing is for.
