The Benchy Mold

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Do not use the plastic mold for food (ice, chocolate, etc.) without food-safe coating

Even though PLA is a bioplastic, it doesn't mean that you should swallow it or use it with food. Furthermore, bacteria can grow inside of the layer lines if the print is not cleaned regularly.

You can either:

• Apply food-safe coating on your mold
• Print the “Silicone Mold” profile and use food-grade silicone to make the mold for food (IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE SILICONE IS FOOD-GRADE)

Have you ever wanted to make a chocolate, candle, or even ice Benchy? I did, and now that you're here, maybe you do too! This mold lets you create your very own Benchys out of materials that solidify at room temperature, like wax, chocolate, ice, and more. So far, I've tried only those, but you might even be able to use the plastic mold for silicone casting, or the silicone mold for things like filament purge/poop!

A few important notes:

• The plastic mold is best for non-food items and thicker liquids. Watery stuff might leak, though the design helps reduce that risk.
• If you're making candles, go for PETG—PLA can melt if things get too hot!
• Be sure to test the tolerances after printing. Small print differences can affect how the mold fits together or whether it leaks. (There’s even a test profile you can print to check.)
• Keep in mind, scaling the mold up or down may affect how it fits.

This is actually my very first 3D model design, so I’d love for it to get a bit of attention—or maybe even do well in a contest. Bonus idea: Try freezing coffee or milk to make fun ice Benchys! Milk ice works great in iced coffee (just defrost it in the fridge, not on the counter), and you can even add food coloring for fun effects. Soft drinks won’t freeze well due to the sugar, but the possibilities are still endless!
