v8 - improves the drip profile and adds explicit venting. i had issues in some cases with coffee pushing out the side when it wicked enough around the adapter. this fixes that.
---
The AeroPress XL filter holder is several thousandths too large to fit in the opening of the joeveo Temperfect mugs. This adapter fits between them to allow direct use of the XL on the joeveo instead of having to go through a carafe etc.
I printed this with polycarbonate to have at least a useful temperature tolerance. Hopefully there isn't a lot of actual contact with the coffee, but there will be some. Please make your own considerations around food safety. That includes, but is not limited to, material content, surface finishes and bacterial growth, potential coatings, temperature exposure, washability, etc.
As printed with polycarbonate, this is a tight fit on the AeroPress filter holder, but can be attached and removed by hand. There is a slight interference fit with the joeveo. My PLA prototype printed slightly looser. I have ideas around making this hold on nicely while not being so sensitive to the exact dimensions.
The original model is available in OnShape.
Points I am considering around future improvements:
- exact desired fit on the aeropress filter holder. v1 pla prototype print was snug and easily pushed onto and pulled off of the filter holder. something that would be comfortably done for every use. v2 (same relevant dimensions) printed in polycarbonate is readly assembled and removable by hand, but tight enough that you wouldn't want to be taking it on and off daily. which could be ok. and of course, any non-clearance fit is pretty troublesome from any potential manufacturing perspective. even just sharing for other folks to print. normal flexures would reduce the cleanability and food safety aspects. though perhaps a slight non-circulatiry would allow easier control of the fit pressure without those costs.
- maybe add explicit ventilation on the top side. likely not a big deal but i'd rather make sure the air flow is exiting there rather than at the coupler/joeveo interface. the black filter holder already provides paths at its outer edge.
- consider a deeper 'funnel lip' or possibly some features to maximize dripping vs. any potential wicking into the coupler/joeveo interface
- probably reduce the nominally 1/8" wall on the upper half of the coupler
- grip features on the outside related to the unscrewing of the filter holder from the aeropress.
