The AMS has a problem where filament slowly grinds down the feeder funnel until the component needs to be replaced . This seems expensive and obnoxious.
There are lots of models that aim to solve this problem, but they over-complicate the solution by adding:
Multiple filament colors
Unnecessary decorations like logos and icons
Complicated assembly that often comes with an instructional video
Restrictive licenses that prohibit remixes
Solutions to problems I don't have, like wrapping the feeder button to avoid “sore thumbs”
I had fun building a minimal solution to address the issue:
Simple print with 1 gram of filament per adapter and no supports
Minimal functional design with no decorations
Simple snap-fit assembly that doesn't even require removing the filament spool
Share-alike license
Nothing else: this doesn't solve any other problems
Usage:
Print at ≤ .16 mm layer height
Cut some PTFE tube and shove it into the hole (I'm experimenting with everything from 15 mm to ~70 mm)
Snap info the AMS feeder funnel
Feed filament
If the PTFE tube starts to wear out, replace it.
