Spinning Wheel Bobbin Adapter – Print Your Own or Use a Pen Tube
Designed for this printable spinning wheel: Original Spinning Wheel by Good and Basic on Thingiverse
When I built the printable spinning wheel linked above, I had a hard time finding the right aluminum tubing for the bobbin. So I designed this adapter system to make things easier—and more accessible—for anyone in the same situation.
This model gives you two flexible options:
- Print a full plastic replacement bobbin, or
- Use the adapter to fit a standard pen tube as the bobbin shaft.
I’ll be the first to admit I’m terrible at spinning, but even I was able to get both versions working decently. The pen tube version can be a bit snug, so adding a touch of lubricant might help it spin more freely.
For best results, print with a wide brim and leave it on to create a larger glue surface (This is optional, but recommended).
How to Use It:
- Choose your preferred version: full bobbin or adapter for pen tube.
- (Optional) Print with a wide brim and keep it for a stronger glue surface.
- Insert the pen tube (consider light lubrication for smoother spinning).
- Assemble and glue as needed.
- Start spinning!
If you find this idea interesting, pease go download the wheel and print it. It is a fun project and I have just started on my spinning journey but it has been a great starting point.
