Mississippi River catchment (watershed) in the US
This is a 3D print of the catchments (that folks in the US call watersheds for some reason) that feed into the Mississippi River. The print uses an 80x vertical exaggeration, with the printer files being made using the DEMto3D plugin in QGIS: https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/DEMto3D/

Digital Elevation models (DEM) were downloaded from SRTM in individual tiles that were later merged using QGIS: https://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/download
The catchment shapefiles were from https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/#/ using the hydrological units (HUs) 05, 07, 08, 10, 11. These were also merged using QGIS.
The resulting DEM was clipped to the shapefile region before using the clipped DEM in the DEMto3D tool to make the stl files.
This was a lot of fun to put together. The goal is for this to be part of a collection of catchments of major rivers around the world.
