I've seen a lot of underdesk drawer solutions but none that fit my use case, therefore, I created this modular underdesk drawer that can be stacked downwards. It's taken a lot of trial and error but I am very proud of the results. With 60, 90 and 120mm deep drawers currently available, you can stack them any which way you like(120mm supports coming soon, so please note that you can't start with the 120mm version from the desktop at the moment).
To get started, you will need 1 Attachment, 1 Top Rail, 1 set of Pins and 1 Drawer. You will need some screws that are no wider than 4mm and have a head no wider than 8mm for them to fit into the attachments perfectly, as they are hidden inside the Top Rail.
If you run into any issues, please let me know, I'm still working on those 120mm supports mentioned earlier, as well as different types of storage options for the stack so watch this space and feel free to make any suggestions. Don't be afraid of the quoted amount of filament on the print profile; there are many variations and 12 plates, it's just summing it all.
Assembly
- Screw one attachment to your tabletop, making sure to keep everything square while doing so. Start with the screws on the corners and make sure to test fit a rail and drawer before putting in the last of the screws(it holds its shape fairly well, and I had no issues here).
- Attach one ‘Top Rail’ to the attachment point and pin it in from the sides and back(Make sure to push as parallel as possible, they like to snap).
- Insert a drawer and you're good to go!
- If you want an additional drawer beneath it, print the same size support as your first drawer, as well as a ‘Mid Rail’.
- Assemble the support pieces first, making sure you have the top face or bottom face facing outward all around, depending on the look you'd like.
- Click your supports into the square holes in the rail above and insert pins into all the holes.
- Now click your bottom rail into the supports and pin those.
- Insert your next drawer and voila!
- Repeat!
Tips
I've optimised the print files as much as possible, but there are still a few things to be aware of when printing and assembling.
- When removing the pins from the plate, pull upward; do not try to remove them by pushing sideways, as they are optimised for strength in one direction.
- I would advise starting with the 2.85mm pins and going up to the 2.9mm ones if they are too loose. I've snapped and drilled out quite a few pins through this process.
- If you've been silly like me and put the drawer too close to something else so that the pins in the top rail cannot be inserted from the outside, you can insert them from the inside and snip off the end.
- Make sure to remove any excess filament or debris from the supports and the insides of the square holes in the rail before assembly, the parts have very tight tolerances for stability and getting them apart again can be quite challenging(Take your time here please).
