A 1x2u Gridfinity-based spool holder for soldering.
This holder is intended for spools measuring:
- 35mm wide
- 50mm outer diameter
- 20mm inner diameter
- 1mm solder width
This model is comprised of four parts:
- The base plate;
- A two-part screw-together central axle; and
- A slip ring to allow the spool to spin freely despite solder being hooked into the central axle space
To assemble, insert the slip ring into the spool of solder. Place the spool into the base plate, and thread in the female part of the axle. Finally, screw the male part of the axle in.
Please be aware that the tolerances on the screw thread is quite tight, and it is probably a good idea to manually work the screw threads together before assembling the spool.
It may be useful to use some lubricant in the screw thread and between the slip ring and axle. I've used petroleum jelly for this, YMMV with other lubricants.
