Spin the Cat – Yarn Spinner

I came across a couple yarn-spool designs here on MakerWorld and instantly got the idea for this little guy — and I just had to scratch the itch until it was done. 😸

Meet Spin the Cat, my chunky, spin-happy feline spool buddy. He works as a yarn spinner, TP holder, or paper-towel stand depending on which parts you print. It came out exactly how I hoped: sturdy, smooth, and full of charm. Huge thanks to all the makers here whose awesome models inspired this one.

My samples in the photos are printed using marble PLA for that fuzzy cat look and PLA+ for spinning parts where extra durability helps.

🐱Print Settings (Recommended)

• 0.4 mm nozzle
• 4 mm walls
• 4 perimeters
• 15% gyroid infill
• Works well at 0.2 mm layer height
• Supports optional for keyholes for Spin the cat

Plate 1 — Spin the Cat (No AMS Required)

• Only two color changes
• Swap colors at layers 33–43 for the inner cat color
• Everything else prints in one color
• Easy option for non-AMS machines

Plate 2 — Yarn Spinner (AMS Version)

• Full AMS multicolor
• Clean, separated color regions
• Spins smoothly once assembled

Plate 3 — Yarn Spinner (Layer-Change Version, No AMS)

• Color change at layers 19–22
• Recreates the multicolor yarn look
• Same geometry as Plate 2
