This is a simple thumbtack/pushpin design where the pin part is a piece of filament to provide adequate strength for multiple uses. I found this design works best for me taking longevity and ease of printing into account.
Filament insert diameter: 1.75 mm
I have tried 3d printing the whole pushpin in various sizes and options and they weren't strong enough for multiple uses and the narrow pin part would often fail if your filament is a bit wet. I have tried it with a toothpick insert but they are more brittle and often have a larger diameter, making more visible holes in the cork board.
Before you print large batches of the puspins print a test piece to dial in the X-Y hole compensation for you printer and filament!
Important print settings:
- X-Y hole compensation: This setting is used to dial in the hole size for the filament insert. On my A1 mini and Sunlu PLA filament the optimal setting is 0.1 mm.
- Order of walls: outer / inner
Instructions:

| 2. step: Cut the inserted filament at about 45 degrees from the top of the printed part. Its better to have the filament insert shorter so cut at your desired length. | ![]() |
Disclaimer:
The filament insert is thicker than the usual pins so it leaves behind a slightly larger hole in the corkboard table. In the image below the hole marked with the red circle is whats left behind the filament insert, and the blue circle marks the hole thats left behind by the store bought pushpin.
